Build a clear book cover brief.

At a glance

Describe your reader, title, tone, planned editions and available images. Prepare an editable cover brief and use the thumbnail demonstration to check the text hierarchy.

Describe the reader before the artwork

A useful cover brief connects the book's audience, tone and formats to the design decisions. Complete the fields below, then download the brief or carry a short summary into an enquiry. The preview helps you compare text hierarchy at thumbnail size.

Planned editions

Your entries stay in this browser while you work. Agree image rights and production specifications with your designer. Final spine and wrap dimensions depend on the approved interior and your chosen printer's current template.

Review the scope with your designer

  1. Compare the concept with your actual genre and intended reader.
  2. Confirm which editions, concepts and revision rounds are included.
  3. Record the approved title, subtitle, author name, description and any barcode requirements.
  4. Check the final production template against the approved interior.
  5. Confirm the licensed assets, final exports and editable source files you receive.

Read the cover brief guide, explore existing book covers and discuss cover design support.
